黃石寨位于張家界國家森林公園的中部，海拔約1200米，寨頂面積達200多畝，是由無數懸崖峭壁共同托起的一塊雄偉、奇特而又美麗的臺地。從寨頂眺望四周，只見云漫萬塹，千峰攢聚，綠樹凌空，薄霧飄舞。黃石寨是張家界風景的精華，一位著名詩人這樣評價黃石寨：“五步稱奇，七步叫絕，十步之外，目瞪口呆。”
杉林幽徑
首先呈現在我們面前的是一排陡峭而又曲折的石級，隱隱約約躺在茂密寧靜的杉林里，那就是“杉林幽徑”。白古登黃石寨只有后山一條路，今天走的這條路，是十多年前人工開鑿的。從杉林幽徑上山，兩邊的風景，讓人目不暇接。
羅漢迎賓
前面這個景點叫做“羅漢迎賓”。請大家注意左上側的石壁上，一個大肚羅漢正靠近一棵松樹盤腿而坐，他頭戴僧帽，歪嘴斜眼，滿臉堆笑地凝望著山下。大家若仔細看就會發現，他特別像民間傳說中的“濟公”和尚。
大巖屋
離開“羅漢迎賓”，請繼續往上走。現在所在的地方是一座巖罩，它高約3米，長約20米，上面有一個2米多寬的巖石懸罩，它叫做“大巖屋”。這里既是游客們小憩的好地方，也是一處絕妙的觀景臺，往東可以看到花溪峪、種子園與鑼鼓塔一大片風光，其間重巒疊嶂，萬峰聳立，云霧繚繞，恍如仙境。
半壁江山

點將臺
大家現在已經到半山腰了，離寨頂只差一半的路程了。大家請看，前面有一塊巨石凌空而出，崖下一片杉林連綿起伏，綠濤洶涌，這個景點就是“點將臺”。相傳漢留侯張良當年為了尋找師傅的蹤跡，來到此地，卻遭到大權在握、專橫一世的呂后的猜忌。為了對付呂后的大軍圍攻，張良在此日夜操練人馬，以防不測。據說，這里就是張良當年登臺“點將”的地方。
娛樂臺
過了“點將臺”，大家往右邊臺階向上走，上面是一處天然石壁拱成的凹形崖壁觀景臺，這便是“娛樂臺”。這里可以近看“天書寶匣”，遠觀花溪峪，上眺千峰錯列，下瞰林木蒼翠。大家請看右邊對面的山上，有一個約20米高的圓形石柱，兀自獨立，頂端為一平臺，上面有一塊長約3米，寬約1.5米的石匣，匣上有一個石蓋，一半凌空，一半蓋于匣上，周圍環繞著五棵翠綠的松柏。傳說張良曾將黃石公的三卷天書藏于匣內，后因戰事平息，張良又取出天書放置在其他地方，但他卻忘記合上抽蓋，至今留下一只半掩半開的石匣。由于石匣內曾藏過天書，因而被人譽為“天書寶匣”。
南天門
看過天書之后，繼續攀登。大家請看前方，兩山相擠，中間僅有一條通道，其形如門，大有“一夫當關，萬夫莫開”的氣勢，這里就是“南天門”。大家請注意旁邊的兩座山峰，排列整齊，威武雄壯，酷似古代的武士，一左一右，常年守候在南天門旁邊，人們稱他們為“把門將軍”。他們身穿鎧甲，腰懸寶刀，背插羽箭，身材偉岸，形態逼真。據說這是把守黃石寨的山神。
搖錢樹

“南天一柱”是整個“武陵源”風景的特寫，它拔地而起，上大下小。在它身上有一種歷經萬年滄桑卻仍然堅忍不拔的精神，是整個“武陵源”石英巖峰林地貌景觀的縮影，也是“張家界國際森林保護節”的節徽和標志。
摘星臺
大家現在已順利登上黃石寨了。前面這座上平下懸的圓形石峰就是“摘星臺”。站在臺上，使人油然產生“一覽眾山小”的感慨!這里可眺望“雙門迎賓”、“天然壁畫”、“玉瓶峰”、“兔兒望月”等主要景點。特別是到了晚上，有一種與星星近在咫尺的感覺，似乎一伸手，就能將天上的星星“摘下來”。
六奇閣

此刻呈此刻我們面前的這條“杉林幽徑”，是十多年前人工開鑿的。這條路陡峭而又曲折，在茂密寧靜的杉林里若隱若現。而在還沒有開鑿這條路的時候阿，自古登黃石寨就只有后山一條路了。那此刻大家就隨我一齊，沿著這條“杉林幽徑”，來欣賞一下兩邊讓人目不暇接的風景吧。

黃石寨位于張家界國家森林公園的中部，海拔約1200米，寨頂面積達200多畝，是由無數懸崖峭壁共同托起的一塊雄偉、奇特而又美麗的臺地。從寨頂眺望四周，只見云漫萬塹，千峰攢聚，綠樹凌空，薄霧飄舞。黃石寨是張家界風景的精華，一位著名詩人這樣評價黃石寨：“五步稱奇，七步叫絕，十步之外，目瞪口呆。”
杉林幽徑
首先呈現在我們面前的是一排陡峭而又曲折的石級，隱隱約約躺在茂密寧靜的杉林里，那就是“杉林幽徑”。白古登黃石寨只有后山一條路，今天走的這條路，是十多年前人工開鑿的。從杉林幽徑上山，兩邊的風景，讓人目不暇接。
羅漢迎賓

大巖屋
離開“羅漢迎賓”，請繼續往上走。現在所在的地方是一座巖罩，它高約3米，長約20米，上面有一個2米多寬的巖石懸罩，它叫做“大巖屋”。這里既是游客們小憩的好地方，也是一處絕妙的觀景臺，往東可以看到花溪峪、種子園與鑼鼓塔一大片風光，其間重巒疊嶂，萬峰聳立，云霧繚繞，恍如仙境。
半壁江山
在大巖屋的上面，有一座突兀在山腰上的山峰，顏色金黃，在陽光下灼灼閃光，人們稱它為“半壁江山”。從下面看，它猶如一扇巨大的手掌，五指伸開，而且手掌略收。它聳立在那里，正如同大斧劈開的半邊山一樣，真是鬼斧神工!

大家現在已經到半山腰了，離寨頂只差一半的路程了。大家請看，前面有一塊巨石凌空而出，崖下一片杉林連綿起伏，綠濤洶涌，這個景點就是“點將臺”。相傳漢留侯張良當年為了尋找師傅的蹤跡，來到此地，卻遭到大權在握、專橫一世的呂后的猜忌。為了對付呂后的大軍圍攻，張良在此日夜操練人馬，以防不測。據說，這里就是張良當年登臺“點將”的地方。
娛樂臺

搖錢樹
不知大家注意到身邊這一棵參天古木沒有，其樹齡在百歲以上，叫“青錢柳”。它結籽成串，形狀如錢，成熟時色呈金黃，中間有仁，周圍還有花紋，與古代的銅錢一模一樣。它的樹根從底部分成大丫，春夏季節，樹冠就像是一把撐開的巨傘，枝繁葉茂，給我們一片清涼;秋冬時分，樹葉泛黃，果實成熟，風一吹動，串串果實灑落在地上，就像是一串串金黃的銅餞，由此得名“搖錢樹”。
定海神針與南天一柱

前面這個人工景點就是“六奇閣”。“六奇”準確地說是指山奇、水奇、云奇、石奇、動物奇、植物奇。這是公園內唯一的人造景觀，它采用大理石和鋼筋混凝土等材料建成，高四層，攢尖飛頂，重檐突出，是一座集民俗、書法、自然景觀于一體的特殊樓閣。站在三樓，可以盡情飽覽張家界的壯麗風光。站在閣頂，可以看到袁家界、楊家界、天子山、朝天觀、三姐妹峰……
接下來沿著長2200米的山頂環繞線游覽五指峰、前花園、天橋遺墩等景點。這里的每一座巖峰都是一件古老的藝術品，每一座巖峰都隱藏著大自然的無窮奧秘。幾年前，一位來自東北的女作家，就站在五指峰觀景臺感嘆道：“看了張家界的風光，覺得真可以死了!”接下來她又說：“看了張家界的風光，覺得更有理由好好活了!”兩句話看起來前后矛盾，其實不然：前一句是說能見到像張家界這樣奇美的風光，此生足矣;后一句是說人生是如此美好，理應更加珍愛生命。
后山門
現在來到后山門，它猶如一道石門，中間陡峭，兩邊狹窄，地勢十分險要。過去這里是登黃石寨的唯一通道。1995年3月，江x民就是從這里上下黃石寨的。上山途中，江在休息時興致勃勃地拉起二胡，為當地的土家族女歌手伴奏;登上寨頂后，又情不自禁地唱起京劇《智取威虎山》中的“打虎上山”唱段，與游客們同樂。
