這是我們沿海灘遇到的一個石刻，上面刻有“海判南天”，判在這里是什么意思呢?判為分開、分離、分辨的意思，可以認為南海與南天在此分開。如果我們一起背對著這塊巨石，面朝著南還就能領(lǐng)悟到，也可以說大海把帶和南天，隔開或分開。是否，也可以如此理解：大地，大海，和南天在此分開同時也是在此匯合。我們在回過頭看看，這是誰題寫的呢?是清康熙53年欽差大臣苗曹湯，巡邊至此題刻，這時候天涯海角風(fēng)景區(qū)目前發(fā)現(xiàn)的最早石刻。

往前走不出二十米米，在海邊的一塊巨石，就是舉世文明的“南天一柱”石刻，“南天一柱” 的上款刻著，宣統(tǒng)元年四個小字，下款刻的是，“永安范云梯”字樣。“宣統(tǒng)元年”也就是“公元1920xx年”，永安是地名，經(jīng)考證是指“永安州”，也就是現(xiàn)在的廣西賀州地區(qū)的錳山縣。“范云梯” 是“南天一柱” 的題字作者。字步月，永安水竇村人。，出生于清同治二年，“范云梯”在海南為官前后十八年，宣統(tǒng)元年晚清朝廷腐敗無能。外國列強紛至沓來，共同瓜分中國清朝處在內(nèi)外交困，危機四伏，風(fēng)雨飄搖之中，當(dāng)時46歲的“范云梯”出任崖州知州，苦心經(jīng)營海南島這快不毛之地。一天巡邊至此看見驚濤之中一根石柱頂天立地，心潮澎湃，感慨萬千。有道是，“國家興旺，匹夫有責(zé)”。意到筆到，“南天一柱”四個大字一揮而就。只見字體端莊，雄渾有力，筆記飽滿，言近旨遠。完全是渾然天成。

遠古先民的“地方天圓”，認為大地是方形的，故有東南西北的說法，天是圓的，天籠蓋著“四方大地”，大地東南西北分別有四跟柱子支撐著天空，如此的南天一拄迎合了人們的地方天圓之說。人們見此“南天一拄”大可不必擔(dān)心天要塌崩下來。根據(jù)中國傳統(tǒng)的說，天是圓的，它由地上四個角的四根柱子支撐著，這就是其中的一根柱子的化身，它支撐著南天，讓人民安居樂業(yè)。除此之外，我認為，它更能代表海南人民堅強、勇敢的性格，是海南人民的象征。

南天一拄獨立石磊之中，屹立在南海之濱，奇?zhèn)延^。南天一拄和我們后面要游覽的天涯，海角一起構(gòu)成主題景區(qū)的三大景觀。1986版的兩圓人民幣的背面圖案采用的就就是這“南天一柱”的風(fēng)景圖。
